How to Choose the Best Website Designer on Fiverr

A practical guide to comparing Fiverr website designers: what Pro, Top Rated and Fiverr’s Choice actually mean, how to check portfolios and reviews, and what contractors and local service businesses should look for.

best-website-designer-fiverr

I have sold WordPress website design on Fiverr since 2019, and most of my work there is for contractors and other local service businesses. That gives me a useful view of what separates a good Fiverr order from a frustrating one. It also means I have an interest in this topic, so I will be clear about it: I am a Fiverr seller. This guide is written to help you choose well, whoever you hire.

The short answer

The best website designer on Fiverr is the one whose real experience matches your project. To find them:

What "Best Website Designer on Fiverr" Really Means

There is no single best website designer on Fiverr. There is the best designer for your project, budget and timeline.

Fiverr’s own search does not produce a neutral ranking either. Fiverr explains that relevance to your search is the most important factor, alongside how listings have performed with similar buyers, client satisfaction, review scores, pricing, availability and responsiveness. Results are also personalized, for example by language and by signs of urgency, and paid Fiverr Ads listings appear in results with an ad badge (Fiverr’s search and recommendation system). Two people searching for the same thing can see different results.

So “best” is something you work out, not something you find at the top of a search page. A designer who builds excellent online shops may be a poor choice for a roofing company, and the reverse is also true.

Fiverr Badges and Levels: What They Tell You and What They Do Not

Fiverr shows several signals on profiles and Gigs. They are useful, but each one measures something specific.

Fiverr levels and badges compared
SignalHow Fiverr describes itWhat it tells youWhat it does not tell you
Level 1 and Level 2Reached automatically when a freelancer meets set criteria for success score, rating, response rate, orders, unique clients and earnings (level system)The seller has a track record of completed ordersWhether they have built a site like yours

Platform trust signals vs project fit

Badges and levels are platform trust signals. They show that a seller delivers orders reliably, communicates well and keeps clients satisfied on Fiverr. That reduces risk.

They do not show project fit: whether the seller understands your business, your customers and the kind of website you need. Fit comes from the portfolio, the questions the seller asks and the scope of the Gig. A Top Rated seller who has never built a service business website can still be the wrong choice for one. A Level 2 seller with a strong portfolio in your industry may be a good one.

Badges narrow the list. Fit decides the hire.

A Practical Framework for Evaluating Fiverr Website Designers

When I look at how buyers choose, the ones who end up happy usually check the same eight things.

What to check before hiring a Fiverr website designer
AreaWhat to checkGood sign
1. Relevant portfolioLive websites similar to yoursReal businesses in your industry or a close one
2. PlatformWordPress, Shopify, Wix or another builderThe seller specializes in the platform you want to keep
3. ReviewsRecent reviews from similar projectsSpecific comments about communication and results
4. ScopePages, content, revisions, plugins, hosting, supportClear packages, not vague “unlimited everything”
5. Questions they askTheir first reply to your messageQuestions about your services, customers and goals
6. Mobile and speedHow their live sites work on a phoneClear phone numbers, readable text, fast pages
7. SEO basicsHow they describe SEOPage structure, titles and headings; no ranking promises
8. Platform signalsLevel, Top Rated, Vetted Pro, Fiverr’s ChoiceSupporting evidence, not the only reason

Check the profile

Read the profile description, not just the headline. Look for what the seller actually specializes in, which platforms they use, how long they have been on Fiverr, the languages they work in, and the average response time. A profile that lists every possible service often means the seller does not specialize in any.

Evaluate the portfolio, not the Gig images

Gig thumbnails are designed to sell. A portfolio of live websites tells you much more. When you review it:

  • Open the live sites, not just screenshots, and check them on your phone.
  • Look for businesses like yours. A beautiful site for a restaurant does not show that the seller understands quote requests or service areas.
  • Check the basics: can you find the phone number in a few seconds? Is it clear what the business does and where? Is there a next step on every page?
  • Ask which parts they built: design only, development, content, SEO setup? Many sites have several people behind them.
  • Be careful with demo sites. A polished demo shows design skill, but it has not been tested by a real business with real customers.

Read the reviews properly

Overall ratings tend to be high across established sellers, so the rating alone rarely separates them. Instead:

  • Read the most recent reviews first, because they reflect how the seller works now
  • Look for reviews from buyers with projects like yours (many reviews mention the type of site)
  • Notice how the seller responds to the less positive ones
  • Check the reviews on the specific Gig you plan to order, not only the profile total

Read the Gig scope line by line

Most disappointments I hear about come from scope, not skill. Before ordering, confirm:

  • How many pages are included, and what counts as a page
  • Who writes the content and supplies the images
  • How many revisions are included, and what counts as a revision
  • Whether premium plugins or theme licenses are included, and who owns them
  • Whether hosting, domain setup and email are included or separate
  • What basic SEO setup is included (titles, descriptions, headings, sitemap)
  • What happens after delivery: training, fixes, support period

If something is unclear, ask for a custom offer that spells it out. Fiverr supports custom offers, and milestones for larger projects (Fiverr glossary).

Generalist or Industry Specialist?

A general website designer can be the right choice for a simple brochure site. For some projects, industry experience saves a lot of explaining and avoids structural mistakes.

What different website projects need from a designer
Project typeWhat the designer should understand
Online shopProduct structure, checkout, payments, shipping, stock
Portfolio or personal brandVisual presentation, case studies, a simple inquiry path
Professional services (law, accounting)Credibility, practice areas, consultations, careful wording
Contractor or local service businessServices, service areas, project proof, calls and quote requests on mobile
Healthcare or clinicTreatments, booking, privacy considerations, accessibility

Someone searching for a contractor website designer on Fiverr needs something different from someone searching for an ecommerce website designer. The first needs a site that turns local visitors into calls and quote requests. The second needs a site that sells products online. Very few designers are equally strong at both.

Choosing a Website Designer for a Contractor or Local Service Business

A contractor website is not just a website with a construction-themed design. In my experience building these sites, the design matters much less than whether the site clearly communicates:

  • Services: each main service explained, ideally on its own page
  • Service areas: where the business works, consistent with its Google Business Profile
  • Project experience: real photos and short project descriptions
  • Trust signals: licenses and insurance where they apply, genuine reviews, real people
  • Calls to action: a clear next step on every page
  • Contact options: phone, a short quote form and email
  • Mobile usability: many customers find a contractor on their phone
  • Local relevance: the business clearly belongs to the area it serves
  • Clear navigation: visitors find their service in one or two taps

A designer who asks about these things in their first reply is usually a better fit than one who only asks about colors and fonts. I explain how I plan these sites on my contractor website design page.

Contractors, construction and remodeling

Look for a designer who can structure several services and project types without making the site confusing. Good signs in their portfolio: separate service pages, project galleries with real photos, before-and-after work, clear quote request forms and service area information. For larger construction companies, project pages often matter more than service pages, because buyers want to see comparable work. See how this differs on my construction website design page.

Roofing companies

Roofing websites need clear paths for different situations: a leak or storm damage, a planned replacement and commercial roofing. A designer with roofing experience should ask about:

  • Which services you want to be hired for (repair, replacement, inspections, gutters, commercial)
  • Whether you offer free inspections or estimates, and how you want them requested
  • Where you work
  • Warranties, manufacturer certifications or insurance claim help, only if you genuinely offer them
  • Real project photos for a gallery
  • How customers should reach you in an emergency

On the Goodman Roofing website, for example, the main structural decision was splitting residential and commercial roofing into two clear paths, because those customers ask different questions. More detail is on my roofing website design page.

Plumbing and HVAC companies

Plumbing and HVAC customers are often searching because something has stopped working. The designer should think about:

  • Emergency calls: a tap-to-call phone number that is always visible on mobile
  • Service categories: for plumbing, drains, water heaters and leaks; for HVAC, heating, cooling, repair, installation and maintenance
  • Service areas, clearly listed
  • Estimate or booking requests for non-urgent work
  • Financing or maintenance plans, only if the business offers them

A designer whose portfolio sites hide the phone number in a menu on mobile is probably not the right fit. See plumbing website design and HVAC website design for how I approach each.

Electricians, painters, landscapers, pest control, cleaning and other local services

The same principles apply across most local service trades, with different emphasis:

  • Electricians: residential and commercial paths, licensing, and specific services such as panel upgrades or EV chargers where offered
  • Painters and landscapers: strong visual galleries, since the work is easy to photograph
  • Pest control: urgent mobile contact and clear treatment pages
  • Cleaning and junk removal: simple booking or quote requests and clear service areas
  • Solar: careful, accurate explanations of systems and any financing or incentives, without claims the business cannot support

If your trade is not listed, look for a designer who can show at least one live site for a business that serves customers in a similar way. The businesses I work with page lists the trades I build for.

Why WordPress Experience Matters

If you want a WordPress website, choose a designer who specializes in WordPress, not someone who builds on several platforms equally. WordPress gives you full control of your site, but that also means more decisions that affect you after the project ends. Ask a WordPress developer on Fiverr about:

  • Ownership: the site should be on hosting and a domain in your name, with your own admin account
  • Page builder: whether they use Elementor, the block editor or something else, and whether you can edit text and images yourself
  • Plugins and licenses: which premium plugins are used, whose license they are under, and what happens when it expires
  • Updates and security: who is responsible for WordPress, theme and plugin updates after launch
  • Speed and mobile: how they handle images, caching and mobile layouts
  • Handover: whether you get a short walkthrough or written notes

WordPress’s own guidance on keeping a site safe starts with keeping it updated (Hardening WordPress). A designer who plans for that is thinking beyond launch day. If you already have a WordPress site that needs rebuilding, the questions are similar; my website redesign page covers what changes.

Questions to Ask Before You Order

Fiverr lets you message sellers before ordering, and the replies tell you a lot. Ask:

  1. Have you built websites for businesses like mine? Can you share two live examples?
  2. Which parts of those sites did you build yourself?
  3. Which platform and page builder will you use, and will I be able to edit the site?
  4. How many pages are included, and who provides the content and images?
  5. How do revisions work, and what counts as one revision?
  6. Which plugins or licenses are included, and will they be in my name?
  7. What SEO setup is included?
  8. How will the site work for customers on mobile?
  9. What do you need from me to start, and when?
  10. What happens after delivery if something needs fixing?

Pay attention to the questions they ask you in return. A seller who asks about your services, customers and goals is usually thinking about the right things.

Keep it on Fiverr until you order

Fiverr allows communication through third-party tools only after an order has been placed, and payments must stay on the platform (Fiverr off-platform policy). A seller who asks you to move to email or pay outside Fiverr before ordering is a warning sign.

What to Prepare Before You Order

The quality of a website depends heavily on what the buyer provides. Before ordering, gather:

Your business
Your materials
Practical details

Buyers who send this at the start usually get a better first draft and need fewer revisions.

Red Flags to Watch For

Red flags when hiring a website designer on Fiverr
Red flagWhy it matters
Guaranteed first-page or #1 rankingsGoogle says no one can guarantee a #1 ranking (Do you need an SEO?)
A portfolio with only templates or screenshots, no live sitesYou cannot check real-world quality
No questions about your business before quotingThe seller may plan to fill a template
Asking to move the conversation or payment off Fiverr before an orderAgainst Fiverr’s rules, and it removes your protection
Vague scope (“full website”, “unlimited revisions”) with no detailDisputes often start here
Plugins or hosting in the seller’s name with no handover planYou may not fully own or control your site
Copy-and-paste replies that ignore what you wroteA sign of how communication will go during the project

About the Fiverr Profile Behind This Guide

Since this guide is about evaluating sellers, it is fair to show how my own profile looks against the same checks. At the time of writing (October 2026), my Fiverr profile shows:

  • Vetted Pro and Top Rated status
  • A 4.8 rating from 473 reviews
  • Fiverr membership since 2019, with WordPress website design as my main service
  • A Gig specifically for contractor, roofing, HVAC, plumbing and construction websites, alongside a general WordPress design and redesign Gig
  • WordPress.org contribution since 2019

As explained above, these are platform trust signals. They show reliable delivery and client satisfaction on Fiverr. They do not prove that I am the right fit for every project. That is what the portfolio is for, and I would rather you check it against your project than take any badge at face value.

What I see go wrong most often

These observations come from my own orders, not from statistics:

  • Choosing by looks first. Buyers pick a design style before deciding which pages and services the site needs. The structure matters more.
  • One page for every service. Contractors often want everything on a single “Services” page. Separate pages usually work better for visitors and for search.
  • No real photos. Stock images make a local business look like every other business. Even phone photos of real jobs help.
  • Unclear decision-making. When several people give feedback separately, revisions multiply. One person approving changes keeps things moving.
  • Thinking about mobile last. For local service businesses, the phone version is often the one customers see first.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find the best website designer on Fiverr?

Search for the type of website you need, shortlist sellers whose portfolios include live sites similar to yours, read recent reviews on the specific Gig, and message two or three sellers with a short brief. Choose the one whose questions and examples show they understand your project, using badges as supporting evidence.

Is Fiverr good for website design?

It can be, if you choose carefully and define the scope clearly. Quality varies widely between sellers, so the portfolio, reviews and Gig details matter more than the price or position in search.

How do I choose a WordPress developer on Fiverr?

Look for someone who specializes in WordPress, can show live WordPress sites, explains which page builder and plugins they use, and confirms the site, plugins and hosting will be in your name. Ask who handles updates after launch.

What does Fiverr Pro mean?

Fiverr Pro is a tier of freelancers who applied and were hand-vetted by Fiverr for their professional background, portfolio and service, and who are evaluated regularly. Their badge reads “Vetted Pro”. It is not a paid subscription.

Is a Top Rated Fiverr seller better?

Top Rated is Fiverr’s highest level and requires strong performance across many orders plus a manual review. It is a good sign of reliability, but it does not show whether the seller has experience with your type of website. Check fit separately.

What is Fiverr's Choice?

Fiverr’s Choice is a badge Fiverr gives to selected services (Gigs) in recognition of outstanding quality and client satisfaction. It applies to a specific service and can change over time.

How much does a Fiverr website designer cost?

Prices are set by each seller and depend on the number of pages, features, content and support. Compare what each package includes rather than the starting price, and ask for a custom offer if your project does not fit a standard package.

Can I find a contractor website designer on Fiverr?

Yes. Search for your trade (for example “contractor website” or “roofing website”) and check that the seller’s portfolio includes live sites for similar businesses, with clear services, service areas, project photos and mobile contact options.

Choosing Well

The best website designer on Fiverr for your business is the one whose real experience matches what you need. Use badges and ratings to narrow the list, then let the portfolio, the questions they ask and a clear scope make the decision.
